Our Christian Values – Under Attack

June 7, 2012

As we know the Fight for Marriage, Sanctity of Life from Conception and the latest Euthanasia consultation are still with us and the battle has to go on.

Therefore the Knights of St Columba have organised a “Chain of Prayer” carrying on the theme, “Our Christian Values – Under Attack”

We call upon you our fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ to join the Knights of St Columba in this “Chain of Prayer”.

We will be praying that our politicians heed the message of faith, to Uphold Human Life from Conception  to the Grave and Defend the Sanctity of Marriage between a Man and a Woman.

It will consist of each local Council, where possible, organising  or joining the congregation of a local parish in celebrating at least one Mass for the above intention during the period from the Feast of St Columba (9th June) until the opening Mass of Supreme Council in October.

It will be launched at three seperate venues across Britain on the weekend of the Feast of St Columba.

**Friday 8th June in St Columbas Church Glasgow. 7.30pm Celebrated by Archbishop Conti

Saturday 9th June, Cardiff Cathedral

Sunday 10th June Aylesford Priory

Right to Die?

April 19, 2012

Although we concentrate almost solely on abortion on this blog,  there are other issues that are intrinsically linked to the whole issue of life and euthanasia is one of them.  As prolifers we need to be clear on the arguments against euthanasia and abortion because people who are fighting to legalise abortion often want euthanasia legalized aswell.  Similar reasons in terms of choice, freedom and rights are put forward.

Instead of going through the arguments here we’ve included a recent interview by a  brilliant pro-life speaker, Alison Davis who was on the side of the right to die  for many years. She is eloquent and moving in how she explains how she gradually moved to a position of  the right to life.

Chastity and Abortion

October 6, 2011

When Sr Roseann gives talks about the work of Cardinal Winnings’ Pro-Life Initiative around the country she often refers to our work here as “mopping up” the mess of society,http://www.olmctempe.com/video_humanly_posible.php demonstrated in  this excellent video.

On this theme we came across the work of an American woman Melanie Pritchard who is a chastity and pro-life speaker and worker.  She promotes chastity before marriage and natural family planning as a way to try and prevent the road to an abortion.  The message that society promotes now is that the more sex you have whether in a long term relationship or not,  the happier one will be!

However here at the Initiative we hear many, many stories of women who’s lives have been wrecked by the illusion that sex will hold a relationship together and we often see woman come back to us with consecutive relationships with different men whom they become pregnant with which triggers an emotional crisis.  Abortion seems the answer.  Melanie Pritchard speaks a lot of sense when she promotes restraint and getting to know each other before commitment and then within marriage a sexual relationship.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtFZCs_TKyw

This interview with her is quite long but well worth watching and passing onto teenagers as a message to embrace.  If only we had a British speaker we could promote?  Anyone??

General Election 2010

May 4, 2010

As the election approaches, Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow and Bishop Philip Tartaglia of Paisley have both issued pastoral letters emphasising the need to vote in line with our faith, especially on issues such like the defence of human life, marriage, family and religious freedom. It’s very difficult at the moment to find candidates who’re clearly and unashamedly pro-life, so it’s important to really think and reflect on how we best use our votes.

Archbishops Conti’s letter can be accessed here.

Bishop Tartaglia’s letter can be accessed here.
