Respect for Jacob Rees-Mogg

Sad to see the media slamming down on a politician’s personal beliefs, when Jacob Rees-Mogg specifically stated that his personal belief in abortion being indefensible and belief in the Catholic faith would not affect democracy or laws in the UK. What an intolerant society we live in. In this environment it was brave for Jacob Rees-Mogg to honestly state his personal belief in the sanctity of life from the moment of conception. His is an example for us all to hold firm in our position when facing hostile questioning.

SPUC has written an article contrasting this interview with another by Ann Furedi, the leader of the abortion provider BPAS, who wants to legalise abortion in all circumstances.

I thought his defence of the unborn was well made and his commentary on relationship between faith and politics very good. However Catholic life issues are a seamless garment from conception to death. JRM’s voting record and views on a range of issues affecting the dignity of the human person after birth border on a public scandal. I regularly have to assure people JRM goes against Catholic social teaching which affects life between birth and death.

Again, positively, his defence of his faith under hostile questioning was a useful contribution against the ‘You can’t say that!’ agenda being driven against anything contrary to the Western secular (il)liberal agenda. It’s the vicious damaging right wing economic part of JRM that undoes the good work.
