It was with great joy and anticipation that Srs Andrea and Roseann joined other pilgrims in Rome yesterday to witness the cannonisation of a Pope who has a special affection for us in The Cardinal Winning Prolife Iniaitive.
St. John Paul II was famous for his courageous promotion of life and the family, bringing the message of the “gospel of life” wherever he travelled. Among his most beloved writings were his 1995 encyclical Evangelium Vitae, his 1994 Letter to Families, and his 1981 apostolic exhortation Familiaris Consortio.
Through his witness to life, especially the unborn, during his papacy a whole generation of Catholics were inspired to stand up against abortion and other forms of destruction of life. His coining of the phrase “culture of death”, encapsulated the situation so well that he is quoted continually in the prolife movement.
Now we can pray to this new saint as we continue to stand up for the weakest in our society and look to St John Paul II for help and inspiration.
